Context-based Access Management for Multi-Core SoCs in Safety and Security-critical Automotive, Industrial, IoT and Medical Applications

For many applications in the automotive, industrial, IoT, and medical sectors, meeting specific functional safety and security goals is mandatory, but developing software that achieves such goals is complex and expensive.

Context-based partitioning of ARM Cortex-M multicore SoCs into multi-layered domains is a powerful concept that facilitates achieving functional safety and security goals. On the one hand, it makes it easier to implement freedom from/of interference for functional safety purposes. On the other hand, it allows implementing access rights management for the protection of safety and security critical data and software asset, and when used according to a defense-in-depth approach, it allows the security-level of a system to be considerably improved.

Based on examples from different industries the session shows how the concept of multi-layered partitioning can positively impact overall system quality, lower software and system development costs, and reduce time-to-market by reducing overall development efforts.
