Problem/Question

Do Cortex-M7 and ETM-M7 support system stalling?

Scenario

The Arm Embedded Trace Macrocell Architecture Specification ETMv4.0 to ETMv4.1 describes an optional capability for the ETM to stall the processor to prevent the trace buffer from overflowing.

Answer

Cortex-M7 does not support the stalling capability. The ETM-M7 ID register 3, TRCIDR3.SYSSTALL bit reflects the SYSSTALL input signal of the ETM, which the processor drives LOW, therefore, ETM stalling is not supported.
