About Mali-D71

The Arm Mali-D71 display processor is the first Arm Mali display processor to be built on the innovative new Komeda architecture. This processor is designed to address the bandwidth, throughput and latency challenges of next generation display trends such as Virtual Reality and HDR. It solves complex scenes and drives displays for resolutions up to 4K at 120FPS with a single pass through memory. Mali-D71 is an important companion to the Mali-GPU in the modern Multimedia suite because it limits the GPU workload to offer system power savings of more than 30% compared to existing 4K solutions.

Building on the success of previous-generation display processors, the new Komeda architecture brings significant improvements. These include a highly optimized memory subsystem to address premium device requirements, AFBC1.2 decoder for uncompressed, rotated layers as well as dynamic switching between single display, dual display and side-by-side modes, and many more. Improvements to Android window composition mean further reductions in GPU workloads as well as up to 8 alpha blended composition and/or rotated layers enabling multi-window use cases on Android N.

The Mali-D71 processor works seamlessly behind Android HWC HAL, enabling all must-have image processing functions in a mobile SoC and supporting unique features such as Arm Assertive Display and custom third-party IP through the coprocessor interface.

Combined with Assertive Display 5, the Mali-D71 DPU delivers a stunning HDR experience across all types of display panel, supporting HDR-10 and HLG.

Resolution Up to 4K with high color depth. 10-bit display output is supported.
Rotation 90°, 180° and 270° rotation is supported along with highly configurable cropping options.
Picture Quality With color enhancements, single pixel accuracy for smooth window transitions and horizontal and vertical edge sharpening.
