Mali-V500 Series Video Processors

The Mali-V500 is designed to deliver a pixel throughput* of 1080p60 on a single core scaling linearly to 4k120 on the maximum eight cores. The Mali-V500 offers multi-standard codec support.

* 'pixel throughput’ means the total amount of video content that can be processed on a core or group of cores: so a single core with 1080p60 capability could be made up by two 1080p30 video streams, or four 720p30 streams, etc. The streams can be handled independently, so can encode or decode any codecs supported.

The Mali-V550 has extended its video codec support to include HEVC, ensuring that end devices are able to lengthen their battery lives through hardware acceleration support of this latest codec. Furthermore, it is the first video IP solution to offer a multi-standard codec, including HEVC, for both encode and decode on a single core. To increase bandwidth and energy efficiency, it has maintained support for energy saving features such as AFBC.
