Software development tools for Arm Cortex-R 

Arm Cortex-R processors are optimized for high performance in hard real-time automotive, modem, storage, healthcare and industrial applications. Arm, together with its ecosystem partners, provides complete tools, middleware and platforms to enable efficient software development from deeply embedded applications to high-performance virtualized systems. The latest Cortex-R52 processor is based on 32-bit Armv8-R architecture and is Arm’s most advanced processor yet for functional safety.

Functional safety, accelerated

Building on more than 25 years of continuous development and optimization, the Arm Compiler combines efficiency with robustness to meet the requirements of the most demanding safety-related applications. Arm’s C/C++ compiler toolchain, which is available as part of DS-5 Development Studio (standalone option also available in volume), is qualified by TÜV SÜD for use in the development of safety-related applications according to standards such as ISO 26262 and IEC 61508. It enables developers to spend more time writing code and less time worrying about tools. 

Efficient pre-silicon software development 

To enable software development months ahead of silicon availability, Arm Fast Models fully support the entire Cortex family, including the new Arm Cortex-R52 processor. Use Arm Fast Models in conjunction with DS-5 to build, run and debug software before first silicon is available. For architecture exploration and precise performance analysis Arm provides Cycle Models of Cortex processors with a library of components and examples for building 100% cycle accurate Virtual Platforms.

There are also Soft Macrocell Models (SMM) for the Cortex-R5 and Cortex-R7 processors. SMM is an FPGA implementation of an Arm processor built with Arm development boards, allowing users to try out the latest Arm processors before any hard silicon devices are available from a foundry.
