ULINKpro debug and trace adapter

The ULINKpro debug and trace unit connects your PC's USB port to your target system (via a JTAG, Cortex Debug, or Cortex Debug + ETM connector). It allows you to program, debug, and analyze your applications using its unique streaming trace technology.

ULINKpro, together with Arm Keil MDK, provides extended on-the-fly debug capabilities for Cortex-M devices. You can control the processor, set breakpoints, and read/write memory contents, all while the processor is running at full speed. High-Speed data and instruction trace are streamed directly to your PC enabling you to analyze detailed program behavior.

Broad device support

ULINKpro connects to a wide variety of processor targets, including Arm7, Arm9, and all Cortex-M processor based devices. It supports the following debug interfaces:

  • JTAG support for Arm7, Arm9, and all Cortex-M processors.
  • Serial Wire Debug (SWD) support for all Cortex-M processors.
  • Serial Wire Viewer (SWV) support for all Cortex-M processors.
  • Embedded Trace Macrocell (ETM) support for Armv7-M and Armv8-M based devices.

Using ULINKpro, you can:

  • Download programs to your target hardware.
  • Examine memory and registers.
  • Single-step through programs and insert multiple breakpoints.
  • Run programs in real-time.
  • Program Flash memory.

High-speed connections

ULINKpro offers fast and reliable target connections:

  • Data and event trace for Cortex-M up to 100 Mbit/s (Manchester mode).
  • Instruction trace for Cortex-M3, Cortex-M4, and Cortex-M7 up to 800 Mbit/s (not supported with ULINKpro D).
  • JTAG clock speed up to 50 MHz.
  • Supports Cortex-M devices running at up to 200 MHz (selected devices may have trace-port bandwidth limitations).
  • High-speed memory read/write up to 1 MBytes/s.

Streaming trace

The unique streaming trace capabilities of ULINKpro deliver sophisticated analysis features such as:

  • Complete code coverage information about your program's execution ensures thorough application testing and verification.
  • Performance analysis using the Execution Profiler and Performance Analyzer enable you to identify program bottlenecks, optimize your application, and to isolate problems

Note: Streaming instruction trace requires the target device to have an ETM (Embedded Trace Macrocell).

Note

The ULINKpro D has the same high debug performance as ULINKpro, but does not support instruction trace.

Accessories

Accessories help you to connect your ULINKpro to 5V-only targets or to provide electrical isolation between the debug adapter and the target system.

ULINKpro Isolation Adapter

The isolation adapter is an optional accessory which provides electrical isolation between the target system and the ULINKpro debug and trace unit. Electrical isolation is essential when working with systems that may generate high-voltage spikes (for example motor control systems), or where there is no common ground plane. It uses digital isolation technology which enables it to support high-speed debug and trace as well as a wide target voltage range.

  • Supports instruction trace capture up to 150 Mbps using 2 or 4-pin ETM.

  • External power (via USB connector) minimizes power taken from target.

ULINKpro 5 V Adapter

The 5 Volt (5 V) adapter enables ULINKpro to connect to 5 V-only target devices.

Features

  • Expands the I/O Voltage range to 1.2 V - 5.5 V to accommodate 5 V-only devices.
  • Supports JTAG and SW clock speeds up to 50 MHz.
  • Provides full speed data trace capture (SWV).
  • Supports instruction trace capture up to 400 Mbps using 4-pin ETM.
  • Supports 10-pin Cortex Debug and 20-pin Cortex Debug + ETM connectors.

These adapters replace ULINKpro's standard 20-pin ribbon cable, and connect to either a 10-pin Cortex Debug or 20-pin Cortex Debug + ETM connector.

Note:

  • The adapters are not included with ULINKpro. They must be purchased separately.
  • The isolation adapter cannot be used with ULINK-ME or ULINK2.
  • Some NXP KExxx devices cannot be connected using the isolation Adapter.
  • The 5 V adapter is required when working with 5 V-only devices.
