Optimized string routines - libastring

The libastring library in the /opt/arm/<armpl_dir>/lib directory contains optimized versions of some string.h functions that usually come from libc, such as memset and memcpy.

As with the libamath library, the Arm Compiler automatically links to the libastring library before it links to libc in order to provide enhanced performance. This is a default behavior and does not require that you to supply any specific compiler flags to initiate this behavior.

When using libastring with the GCC compiler, you must explicitly link to the libastring library in order to benefit from the performance increase. For example:

gcc code_with_string_routines.c -lastring
gfortran code_with_string_routines.f -lastring
