What is Neural Dawn?

Neural Dawn is a production-quality mobile game built by Sumo Digital and Arm on Unreal Engine 5. It combines Arm Neural Technologies, MegaLights, and mobile ray tracing to deliverdesktop-class visuals within mobile power and thermal constraints. This is the first time Arm has commissioned a production-quality, six-level game with 90 to 120 minutes of gameplay. It’s designed to showcase what’s possible with neural technology on mobile today.

What is Arm Neural Technology, and how does it work in mobile games?

Arm Neural Technologies (NT) — Neural Super Sampling (NSS), Neural Frame Rate Upscaling (NFRU) and Neural Super Sampling and Denoising (NSSD) – are graphics technologies that use machine learning to dramatically reduce the power consumption of high-fidelity graphics on mobile. These technologies will be further accelerated by Neural Accelerators embedded directly in each GPU shader core, which will be available in Arm-based platforms later in 2026. The combination of Neural Technologies and Neural Accelerators will deliver a step-change in mobile graphics, enabling experiences that were previously only possible on desktop and console.

Can I replicate what Sumo Digital did in my own Unreal Engine project?

The best approach is to start small, validate what works in your own content, and expand from there. You can replicate parts of what Sumo built today, especially with NFRU and NSS, which integrate like a typical engine feature and are designed for easy evaluation. The full setup used in the project (specifically NSSD with MegaLights) involves deeper pipeline changes and isn't a plug-and-play solution in Unreal today. What performance gains can I expect from Arm Neural Technology?

Developers can achieve up to 50% GPU workload reduction with Neural Super Sampling (NSS), and up to 2x frame rates with Neural Frame Rate Upscaling (NFRU). NFRU also supports sustained gameplay by reducing GPU load and power draw, which helps avoid thermal throttling and keeps frame rates stable for longer.
